Ana Sofia Fernandes, Associate Professor / Principal Investigator at U Lusofona / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies, Lisboa, Portugal

I graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2004 at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, where I also obtained a PhD in Pharmacy in the specialty of Toxicology in 2010. In 2018 I obtained the title of European Registered Toxicologist. I have been teaching at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT) since 2008, coordinating several curricular units in the scope of Toxicology and Pharmacology. I am also researcher and Scientific Director for Innovation at CBIOS (the Res. Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies  at Universidade Lusófona). I coordinate the laboratory of Pharmacology and Molecular Mechanisms of CBIOS, whose main research focus is the study of the impact of redox modulators on tumor etiology and progression. In this field, we have studied the effects of various synthetic compounds and of natural origin, including food bioactives, on cellular processes related to tumor development and the metastatic process. I have coordinated several advanced training initiatives, namely in the

area of Cell Culture and Cell Migration. I am involved in international scientific networks, specifically as national delegate for COST Actions, and authored  more than 50 scientific articles and 100 communications, having also editorial experience in several international scientific journals in my area of specialisation. 

 

I currently serve as Secretary and Rapporteur of the ALIES Directorate (2019-2021).

Antero Abrunhosa, U Coimbra, ICNAS - Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health, Coimbra, Portugal

Graduated in Biochemistry (1992) and Master in Biomedical Engineering (1996) from the University of Coimbra. He did his PhD studies in the PET centre of Hammersmith Hospital in London under the supervision of Prof. Terry Jones (2002).

Between 2000 and 2009, he helped design and supervised the construction of the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health (www.uc.pt/icnas), an organic research unit of the University of Coimbra (UC) dedicated to Molecular Imagiology and Technology Transfer. He is currently Director of the Institute and responsible for the Radiochemistry and Radiopharmacy Laboratory.

Mentor of ICNAS-Production Unip. Lda, a UC Group company, has been Manager and Production Director since its foundation in 2009. The company was a pioneer in Portugal in the production of radiopharmaceuticals for PET with the introduction of Fluodesoxyglucose [18F] UC in 2012, which was followed by 5 other products, one of which, in the meantime also approved in Spain

 

Antero is a member of Group 14 (radiopharmaceuticals) of the European Pharmacopoeia, an expert of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on various technical commissions and international missions and a trainer at the ESMIT (European School of Multimodal Imagiology and Therapeutics) of the European Agency for Nuclear Medicine (EANM) in Vienna. He currently has active patents in Europe, the United States and Japan on the production of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals.

André Rolim Baby, Pharmacy Department, FCF, U São Paulo (BRZ)

 

He is an Associate Professor at the Pharmacy Department of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FCF-USP) with experience and performance in the area of Cosmetic Science, involving undergraduate, graduate and research. He has over 130 scientific articles published in national and international journals. He did postdoctoral studies at the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies, at the research center CBIOS. He has participated in national and international congresses, including awarded works with international academic partnership. Concluded the orientation of 11 Masters and eight (08) Doctors so far. In the research activities, we highlight the experience in conducting research projects in the area of photoprotection and "sunscreens non-sunscreens", nanotechnology applied to this class of preparations, skin antioxidant potential "ex vivo", safety and cosmetic effectiveness related to sun protection and other cosmetic attributes.

Carlos Nunes Filipe, NOVA Medical School (PRT)

Psychiatrist, PhD in Neurophysiology; Sub-specialty of Clinical Neurophysiology; Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, New University of Lisbon, Head of the Department of Medical Physiology. He has developed research in the areas of Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Nervous System in Portugal and the Netherlands. 

Scientific Director of CADIn (Centro de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento e Inclusão do Sistema Nervoso), in Cascais, between 2005 and 2015. Head of the Department of Neurosciences of the Faculty of Medicine NOVA / Faculty of Medical Sciences of the New University of Lisbon between 2012 and 2016.  Head of the Department of Medical Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine of NOVA / Faculty of Medical Sciences of the New University of Lisbon since 2015. Clinical Director of the Portuguese Association for Developmental Diseases and Autism (A.P.P.D.A.), Lisbon. In the last twenty years, his interest has been mainly directed to Neurophysiology, Psychopathology and Clinical Developmental Disorders and, in particular, to the manifestations of Developmental Disorders (e.g. Attention Deficit Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders) in adolescents and adults.

 

He is currently (2019 - 2021) a member of the Board of the Portuguese Society of Physiology.

Catarina F Rosado, Associate Professor / Principal Investigator at U Lusofona / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies, Lisboa, Portugal. 

I started my academic career with a 6-month research internship under the Erasmus Programme, which then led me to do my PhD at Cardiff University in Pharmaceutical Technology. I have been a full time Associate Professor at ULHT's School of Health Sciences and Technology since 2004. There I have been developing my teaching in the Dermatology and Pharmaceutical Technology III course units of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and I am coordinator of the Master in Health Products and Food Supplements. Over the years I have collaborated in several Master's and Postgraduate programs at Portuguese universities and abroad. My research activity is integrated in the Development of Delivery Systems of CBIOS of Universidade Lusófona, focusing mainly on transdermal therapy and the development of methodologies for the assessment of efficacy and safety of products for skin application. I am author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and oral and poster communications, being a member of the editorial board of some scientific journals and a reference of reference publications in my field. My interest in cosmetic formulations has increased over the years, being a founding member and board member of the Portuguese Society of Cosmetological Sciences.

 

I currently serve as Vice-President of the Scientific Council (2019-2022).

Domingos Ferreira, Fac Farmacia , U Porto (PRT)

I started my academic career in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP), where I obtained a PhD in Pharmacy speciality in Pharmaceutical Technology in 1991. I am currently Full Professor and Director of FFUP. At FFUP I teach in the areas of Pharmaceutical Technology and Pharmaceutical Regulation. I was Director of the Master Course in Pharmaceutical Technology (FFUP) and Director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FFUP). I develop the scientific activity in the MedTech group at the UCIBIOREQUIMTE Research Center.  My main research focus is the Development, manufacture and control of drugs (tablets, microcapsules, nanoparticles, dust inhalers, transdermal release systems), Methods of micro and nanoencapsulation of biotechnology products, Development of new drug release systems using nanoparticles and Development of cell culture models for drug absorption studies.  In parallel to teaching and research activities, I am involved at different levels in the European Medicines Regulatory System, as Member and Vice-Chairman of the Committee for the Evaluation of Medicines (Infarmed) and Member of the Quality Working Party (EMA).

 

I was Member and Secretary of the Portuguese Pharmacopoeia Commission (Infarmed) and Member of the European Pharmacopoeia Commission (EDQM).

Edson Luis Maistro, Graduate Supervisor of UNESP, Faculty of Medicine of Marília (BRZ)

 

Graduated in Biological Sciences and completed his doctorate (1996) at the age of 31 at Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Brazil (area of Genetics), and post-doctoral studies at Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), Brazil (Genetics, sub-area Mutagenesis). In 2009, he obtained the title of "Livre docência" and became Associate Professor at UNESP, city of Marília. He is currently a Professor at the Speech Therapy Department of UNESP, city of Marília, where he is the coordinator of the Laboratory of Genetic Toxicity. He is supervisor of the Postgraduate Program in General and Applied Biology (master and doctorate students), UNESP, city of Botucatu, Brazil, and is also supervisor of the Postgraduate Program "Health and Aging" (master students), Faculty of Medicine of Marília, city of Marília, Brazil. He has published more than 89 articles in renowned journals and has been a member of the editorial board of some journals. His research area is Genetics: Mutagenesis, especially the investigation of natural and synthetic products with pharmacological potential. Isabel Rodrigues Ferreira, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, Director of the Centro de Investigação da Serra (CIMO), Portugal (PRT)

Full Professor, Vice-President of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Portugal), Director of the Centro de Investigação da Serra (CIMO) and Mentor of the Laboratório Colaborativo MAIS - Montanhas de Investigação. She was President of the Scientific Council of Natural and Environmental Sciences of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Portugal and member of the Steering Committee "Basic Strategic Research" of the Flanders Foundation (FWO). He coordinated the National and Iberian Mountain Research Networks and was a member of the Committee of Experts for the European Programmes H2020 and Horizon Europe. Graduated in Biochemistry (1996) at the University of Porto (Portugal); MSc in Science (1999), PhD in Science - Chemistry (2003), and "Agregação" in Science - Chemistry (2011) at the University of Minho (Portugal).

 

She has been awarded by several national and international institutions for her multiple contributions to the progress of Science, highlighting the European Union (2019) in the Social Innovation Competition. Her name is associated, as publisher, with numerous leading magazines in her specialty. Her science work includes the edition of 4 international books and the publication of 60 chapters of international books, more than 600 articles in reference journals and national and European patents, mostly resulting from technology transfer to industry, being the basis for the creation of spin-offs of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. She is a highly cited scientist (top 1%) awarded by Clarivate Analytics in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, one of the most important indicators of research quality.

Patrícia Dias de Mendonça Rijo, Associate Professor / PI  at ULusofonsa - CBIOS (PRT)

Patrícia has a graduation in Chemistry by the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon (FCUL), also a Master and a PhD degrees in Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Chemistry by the Faculty of Pharmacy by the University of Lisbon (FFUL). Currently, she is Assistant Professor at the School of Sciences and Health Technologies (ECTS) at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT, Lisbon, Portugal) since 2001, where she is responsible for the Coordination of several disciplines in related domains of Chemistry, namely, Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy. Moreover, she is a member of the Scientific Council of ECTS (ULHT). She has focused her research in the medicinal chemistry, phytochemistry and pharmacognosy areas with particular emphasis in Natural Products Chemistry. She published more than eighty papers in international peer-reviewed journals and has over two hundred communications (oral and panel) presented at both national and international meetings and Conferences. In addition, she has two international registered patents.

Patricia Maia Campos, Full Professor – FCFRP Universidade São Paulo (BRZ)

 

Graduated in Pharmacy, with Masters and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of São Paulo - USP. She began her academic career as a professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão da USP in 1987. In 1993, she obtained his Doctorate and post doctorate from the University of Strathclyde - Glasgow. In 2000 she obtained the title of free teacher/Associate professor. She is currently a Full Professor at the University of São Paulo. She has worked as a visiting researcher at Nikkol R&D - Japan, at the University of Paris-Sud, at the Research and Technology Center of Chanel Paris and at the University of Le Havre - France. He has published more than 100 scientific papers in indexed journals, 8 book chapters and 8 patents, in addition to 300 papers reported in scientific events and 50 lectures given. Oriented 13 doctoral degrees 26 master's degrees and 90 students of scientific initiation and continues guiding the post-graduate program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at USP. Coordinated and still coordinates several research projects and has received many awards and honors. She is the coordinator of 3 Scientific Cooperation Agreements between the University of São Paulo and the Lusophone University - Portugal, the Research & Development Center of Nikkol - Japan and the TRI -Princeton, USA. She acts in the Pharmacy area, as leader of the research group Research, development and evaluation of cosmetics. She is the coordinator of the Center for Advanced Studies in Cosmetic Technology (NEATEC). She has extensive experience in the development and studies of clinical effectiveness of cosmetic formulations by techniques of biophysics and image analysis, such as the Confocal Microscope of Reflectance, an advanced technique in the diagnosis of diseases, the evaluation of morphological and structural characteristics of the skin and effectiveness of products in a non-invasive way. She is a scientific consultant in the public sector - CATEC/ANVISA, in the productive sector in renowned cosmetic companies and member of the Technological Council of ABIHPEC.

Sergio Faloni Andrade, Principal Investigator, ULusofona /  CBIOS  (PRT)

Graduated in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of Alfenas (1998) - Brazil, Master in Biological Sciences (Pharmacology) from the State of Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) (2001) - Brazil, I did my PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP) (2005) - Brazil and in 2017-2018 I did a Post-Doctoral internship at Lund University - Sweden. I started my teaching career in 2001 at Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (UNOESC) - Brazil where I worked until 2007. Later I worked from 2007 to 2019 at the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI) - Brazil and currently I am a researcher at CBIOS - Universidade Lusofona, Lisbon, Portugal. In the teaching area I taught the disciplines of Physiology, Physiopathology and Pharmacology for the courses of Pharmacy, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Biomedicine. Regarding research I have been dedicated to Pharmacological Evaluation and Phytochemical Analysis of Natural and Probiotic Products, with interest in gastritis, anti-ulcer activity, gastroprotection, gastric healing, skin healing, intestinal inflammatory diseases and activity on the renal and cardiovascular system, having published several articles in international journals with peer review and book chapters. I have served as guest editor of international journals on two occasions and I am a current reviewer of over a dozen journals. During my career, I have been advisor of 4 doctoral theses, 18 master's dissertations, 38 bachelor's degree papers and numerous scientific initiation projects, supervising 2 post-doctoral researchers. I also had administrative experience as coordinator of the pharmacy course at Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (UNOESC) - Brazil, for 5 years and vice-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Universidade do Vale do Itajaí - Brazil, for 3 years.
